Shopping small is a great way to support your community while you let your loved ones know how much you care. This year is harder than most, on families and businesses alike. Now more than ever, our communities need our support.

This year we can’t come together with our loved ones the way we’d like to, but we can still find ways to show that we care. Shopping local means finding gifts, while supporting the community. It’s like killing two birds with one stone, but if you still aren't convinced, here are 5 reasons to Shop Small:

  1. Small and local businesses give back more to the local economy.
Businesses pay sales taxes in the city and state they are located in, driving to another town to buy your goods means your town isn’t getting that revenue.

  2. Better Customer Service
Since small businesses have fewer customers, it’s both easier and more important to focus on them. That means that you’ll get better service than you would at a big box store.

  4. More Jobs in Your Community
More than half of the U.S.’s jobs since 1995 were created by small businesses. And according to the SBA, since 1990, big businesses eliminated 4 million jobs, while small businesses added 8 million. The more you shop at a local store, the more potential job opportunities you could help them provide.

  5. Access to different products
Small businesses generally have the same access to vendors as their big box store brothers. If they don’t have something you’re looking for, ask. Chances are they will be able to fulfill the order for you.

  6. It just feels better.
Shopping at a local business means you are helping your friends and neighbors thrive. Keeping your money in the local community helps everyone. If you’re going to be spending the money anyways, why not help lift up your community while you do it?
