New England is home to an abundant amount of Victorian homes, many of which are in need of restoring. Heirloom Builders has been working with a home like this for three years. This Ipswich home was built in 1900. In it’s lifetime it has seen three owners and the switch from horse drawn carriages to the modern automobile. The new homeowners would like to restore it to it’s original glory, and that is Egmont’s task. “Our goal with this project has been to replace outdated systems while keeping the house looking exactly the same,” he said.   

Guided with the knowledge and style preserved in old photos, glimpses of history are coming alive. All along the front of the home, the windows have been replaced and recently double french doors have been re-installed. Egmont told us, “The Marvin windows look just like the originals only better and more energy efficient. In concert with the windows we have had custom milled woodwork to match the original in the house. We have also installed a modern hvac system that we integrated seamlessly into the house. It allowed us to control the humidity and stabilize the beautiful original woodwork.”
