Sliding Doors

A sliding door is the perfect combination of style and function, and may be just the thing for your home. Pocket doors recede into the wall when opened, while barn doors glide on tracks on the surface of the wall. Both have their merits, and both have a lot to offer your home.

Rising to popularity in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, pocket doors are a great way to separate an open space or close off a particular area.  A pocket door is a sliding door that disappears into the wall when opened. Since there is no need to take into account the swing of the door, these can be a great space saver or architectural detail. Think french doors, without having to worry about all the swing space.

Today,hardware has improved and pocket doors are making a comeback. With the rise of small living and open floor plans, pocket doors are proving themselves relevant once again.

Barn doorsare nothing new, but have recently been growing in popularity as well. Different styles of tracks and doors are also available.The name might imply a more rustic or farmhouse style, but there are modern and contemporary versions available too. You don’t even need to use a proper door,  anything you can attach to the gliders will do.

Painting a sliding door means you can have a nice accent color or mural. They are often used in closets, bathrooms or dividing a room. Sliding doors are a great alternative if you want french doors but just don’t have the room. Glass panels or shutters can also add a nice texture to your home or space.
