It wasn't so long ago laundry machines were hidden in the basement out of sight. Loud and bulky, no sane homeowner wanted their main floor disrupted by a pair of obnoxious home appliances.

Then, laundry machines became quieter, quicker, and even better looking with a certain space-age sleekness. In turn, the laundry machines have made their way to the main floor and laundry rooms, as it were, have become more like a command center for clothing management. From tables for folding and cabinetry to store cleaning products to closets that warm winter coats and desks for quick sewing jobs and repair, the laundry room has become more than  place to put two appliances. For many, it’s about function — creating a beautiful, comfortable, spacious place to get things done.

Laundry is still a chore, after all. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be made more tolerable by creating a brilliant room in which to do it.
