On Saturday May 4th, 2019 we had our first workshop. We’ve been working on putting these together for a while, and we couldn’t be happier with how everything went. Our new showroom has a conference room that provides the perfect classroom space. We have been working on pursuing these educational workshops because we feel that there is a need for this kind of continuing education. We know that this is a skilled trade, one that requires education and training that is hard to find or expensive.
Taught by Aaron Butt, this workshop focused on the basics of building steps. We spent the morning in the classroom learning how to calculate rise and run, then moved outside to put it into practice. Carpentry is a diverse field, and for many jobs there is no one right way to do them. Our Stair Building 101 workshop taught students how to draw a pattern and cut stair stringers, but there are many other ways to build stairs.
One of our students had just gotten hired for his first construction job. He had been a carpenter for approximately 2 weeks before building his first set of steps with us. They weren’t perfect, but he built and finished them. He learned a new skill that he probably otherwise wouldn’t have picked up so quickly. In creating this platform for education, we will provide opportunities to learn off the job site, which can mean saving time and money on a project.
Our goal has always been to be a resource for homeowners and professionals. These workshops are designed to provide experience and skills to those who are looking to learn. Whether you are a professional looking to grow your craft or a homeowner looking to expand your DIY know-how, we want to continue creating learning opportunities for you.
